Stage set for KCB S&L Mortgage Rally in South Coast

It is all systems go as the Mombasa Motor Club-organised KCB S&L Mortgages Rally heads to South Coast on the weekend of July 7-8.
The event, which opens the second round of the eight-leg 2012 KCB Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC), is co-sponsored by ICEA Lions, ALS, Aquamist and iWay Africa.
With the Safari Rally giving crews a taste of the demanding long stages, the MMC event will see various drivers battle it out for points in various KNRC categories as well as the 2WD and the Class Car Cup.
On Saturday July 7, the rally will be flagged off outside KCB Ukunda branch after which cars will proceed to the super special in Ukunda, giving locals a feel of some hair-raising thrills.
Cars will then head to the overnight parc ferme at Leisure Lodge and restart on Sunday morning to tackle stages around Kwale and Ukunda areas.
Among top division one drivers expected are series leader Carl “Flash” Tundo (EVO9), Ian Duncan (EVO9), Alastair Cavenagh (EVO9), Azar Anwar (EVO8), Baldev Chager (Subaru N16), Peter Horsey and his younger Alex Horsey.
Division Two battles will revolve around leader Manvir Singh Baryan (Subaru N16), Don Smith and EVO9’s Izhar Mirza.
The battle for Group S honours will also take shape with top of its drivers headed for a battle royale.
Jaswinder Chana, his brother Jasmeet, Joe Muchiri, Hussein Malik, John Muigai and Mahesh Halai will be the usual suspects in Group S.
The 2WD class is also anticipated to produce fireworks with Mombasa-based Aisha Motors-sponsored Nadeem Kana gunning for the third win of the season up against the likes of Two Times Champion Leo Varese, Dennis Mwenda, Patrick Kibaara and Gurmit Thethy.
